Standing Watch
A passing moment
A little detour in life
Going through the motions
Never considering the strife
The honor
The glory
The pride
Of a soldier's return
Marred by a flag draped box
Traveling within the hold
A visual reminder of the cost
A price willingly paid
By all those involved
The one regret
Would be this
To not have participated
As the soldier moved on
To his final resting place
A life given for my freedom
Deserves the time
The respect
Now it is my turn
The soldier served the country
Protecting us from unknown evil
Now I will step up
And stand watch
Over those he dearly loved.
